“Lawyer Talk” Featuring Attorney Elissa Holman
I began my career in corporate America. First, I went from a teller to a personal banker, then from a personal banker to a banking center manager. It happened quickly. By the age of twenty-three, I was living in Dallas, Texas, managing banking centers and leading a team who were all older than me.
By twenty-five, I was in Kansas City, working as corporate trainer for the same bank. I continued to rise through the ranks, becoming Senior Vice President, leading teams across the nation and partnering with leaders across the world.
During my time at the bank, I saw many things. I leaned in often. I made certain to represent the voices often forgotten when making critical decisions. I saw the good, the bad, and the ugly.
In February of 2011, I decided I was ready to exit after fifteen years of service. Since leaving the financial sector, I spent a handful of years doing a variety of things, trying on different hats. Throughout my life, I've wanted to be a lawyer. I found myself working very hard to talk myself out of it, but it just kept resurfacing. I made the decision at the young age of forty years old to attend law school. I graduated in April of 2018.
I am an advocate for those who don't have a voice. I do what I can to make certain the vulnerable, impoverished, and abused are represented. When I set my sights on something, I get it done. I am a survivor. I don't give up. I am a fighter and I like it.
